Milton, PA firefighters battle
fully involved truck tractor fire
On Tuesday 01/11/05 at 1701 the
Milton and Turbot Twp. Fire departments were dispatched
to the Petro All American Truck Stop for a reported
tractor trailer fire. Chief 1501(Shaffer) arrived on
scene to find a parked tractor trailer with a fully
involved tractor. An additional tanker was requested
from the Warrior Run Area Fire Dept. Engine 15-1 arrived
on scene and initiated an attack with two 2" attack
lines. Shortly after beginning the attack both saddle
tanks burned through releasing a pool of burning diesel
fuel. After knocking down the bulk of the fire the
Pro-Pak was used for mopup. The trailer was found to be
empty and the fire was knocked down before extending
into the trailer. A cleanup crew from Minuteman Towing
was contacted to clean up the fuel. While working on
this incident both Milton and Turbot Twp. Were
dispatched to a fatal pickup vs. tractor trailer MVA
about 5 miles away. Crews were able to handle both
incidents.
Two brothers, ages 6 and 9, perished in the blaze. One
female was transported from the scene by BLS with minor
burns and smoke inhalation. One firefighter was transported
with chest pain. Three homes were destroyed and two damaged
leaving 16 people homeless. The cause is currently under
investigation but is not considered suspicious. This was the
third multi-alarm blaze in the Boro in 6 weeks.

Ambulance, William Cameron Engine Co.(Lewisburg),
Mifflinburg Fire Dept., White Deer Twp Fire Dept., Warrior
Run Area Fire Dept.(Watsontown), Pottsgrove Fire Dept.,
Evangelical Community Hospital Paramedics, Milton Police
Dept., and the PA State Police Fire Marshall.
