Milton, PA firefighters battle fully involved truck tractor fire

On Tuesday 01/11/05 at 1701 the Milton and Turbot Twp. Fire departments were dispatched to the Petro All American Truck Stop for a reported tractor trailer fire. Chief 1501(Shaffer) arrived on scene to find a parked tractor trailer with a fully involved tractor. An additional tanker was requested from the Warrior Run Area Fire Dept. Engine 15-1 arrived on scene and initiated an attack with two 2" attack lines. Shortly after beginning the attack both saddle tanks burned through releasing a pool of burning diesel fuel. After knocking down the bulk of the fire the Pro-Pak was used for mopup. The trailer was found to be empty and the fire was knocked down before extending into the trailer. A cleanup crew from Minuteman Towing was contacted to clean up the fuel. While working on this incident both Milton and Turbot Twp. Were dispatched to a fatal pickup vs. tractor trailer MVA about 5 miles away. Crews were able to handle both incidents.

Two brothers, ages 6 and 9, perished in the blaze. One female was transported from the scene by BLS with minor burns and smoke inhalation. One firefighter was transported with chest pain. Three homes were destroyed and two damaged leaving 16 people homeless. The cause is currently under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
