On Thursday 06/16/04 at 21:18 hours engine and
squad company 12 along with ambulance company 74 and medic 81
were dispatched for an accident with entrapment. The accident
occurred at Hartzdale Dr.and St. John Rd. in Lower Allen Twp.,
Cumberland county, Pennsylvania.
Ambulance 2-74 went on scene with one entrapped, one
lying on the roadway and many walking wounded. They requested
additional EMS units to assist. Ambulance companies 14, 71, and
Medic 82 were then dispatched to the scene. Life Lion air
medical helicopter was then requested to the scene for an
entrapped unresponsive trauma alert patient.
Engine 2-12 went on scene confirming entrapment and a
working rescue, crew started stabilization of the vehicle.
Squad 12 arrived and went straight to work with Engine 2-12 crew
and put all rescue tools into service. Engine 2-37 to BJ’s
Warehouse lot to set up a landing zone for Life Lion. The
driver’s door removed and the patient was extricated in 22
minutes and then moved to the landing zone..
All vehicles then had their electrical systems secured
and spills were controlled. The police investigation team
arrived on scene and did their investigation with the fire
department assistance. The county EMA PIO official was
requested to the scene to meet with the media. The roadway was
reopen after 21:00 hours after all vehicles were removed from
the scene.scene.
Squad 12 then was dispatched to take up another
vehicle accident with injuries with mutual aid company engine 23
shortly after returning back to service.
