On Saturday April 30 at 11:15AM the Bell Township (67), Avonmore (55) and Saltsburg (131) Fire Departments, as well as EMS units from LifeStat (90), and Avonmore (600) responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment on Rt. 981 near Bell Plan Dr that involved a tractor trailer.

Avonmore EMS Medic 601 arrived on scene and confirmed one entrapped, and requested STAT MedEvac 2 who was on standby in the air. Bell Twp. Rescue-Engine 67-1 arrived, and started stabilization and extraction of the patient. The crew was assisted by Saltsburg Rescue 131.

The roof was going to be removed, but the patients condition deteriorated rapidly, so the dash was lifted and the patient was rapidly extricated to EMS where CPR was started.

He was transported by LifeStat Medic 97 to Latrobe Area Hospital with the flight crew from MedEvac aboard.

The patient was revived and then was flown from Latrobe Area Hospital to UPMC in Pittsburgh where he later died of his injuries.
